Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread cubed
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 6 eggs (can use egg substitute)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 med tomato, sliced
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sour cream

Step 1

1. Place the bread cubes in an 11x7 in shallow 2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle with bacon and onions.

2. Beat the eggs in a medium bowl until smooth. Add the milk, dry mustard and salt. Mix well. Stir in the cheese. Pour the milk mixture over the bread, bacon and onions. Cover and chill at least 2 hours or overnight.

3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Uncover the baking dish and top with the tomato slices. Bake the strata for 55 min, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

4. Cut the strata into 6 squares, place on individual plates. Top each serving with shredded lettuce and sour cream. Serve immediately.
