Ingredients
- 1 cup hot water
- 3 (1oz) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups whole buttermilk
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Peanut Butter Frosting (see recipe)
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 2 10" round cake pans with bakers spray.
2. In a small bowl, combine hot water and chocolate. Let sit for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chocolate is melted and smooth.
3. In stand mixer combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat at med-low speed until smooth. With mixer running, addmelted chocolate mixture, beating until well combined.
4. Pour evenly into prepared pans and bake about 23-25 minutes, until tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
5. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
6. Spread peanut butter frosting evenly in between layers and on top of cake. Garnish with chocolate curls or chopped reeses PB cups.
