SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS

Ingredients

  • Meat Balls:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp horseradish
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 lbs (750g) lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp Tabasco sauce
  • Sauce:
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove crushed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup chilli sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Tabasco sauce
  • 3 tbsp flour

Step 1

Method for Meat Balls
•Preheat oven to 350⁰F
•Lightly oil 2 baking sheets or just line with foil,with shallow sides
•Whisk eggs with horseradish sauce, salt and pepper
•Crumble beef and bread crumbs into egg mixture, blend well
•Shape into 1 inch balls, placing 1 inch apart on baking sheet
•Bake into centre of oven until browned, about 10-15 minutes turning every 5 minutes

Method for Sauce
•Sautee onions first in a large saucepan. Place rest of sauce ingredients in pan.
•Bring to boil stirring often and then
reduce heat and simmer and stirring often for 5 minutes
•Place meatballs in sauce discarding fat on baking sheet. Add flour a little at a time to thicken.
Simmer covered and stirring often for 15 minutes.
