Ingredients
- 1 bag store bought (bakery) pizza dough
- Mozzarella cheese
- Ricotta cheese
- Garlic Salt
- Oregano
- Tomato sauce
- Minced garlic
- Melted butter
- Fillings (pepperoni, steamed broccoli, cooked ground sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
Preparation
Step 1
Leaving dough in sealed bag, allow to stand at room temperature until thawed and risen. Divide dough in half. Stretch dough until thin and spread on cookie sheet lightly greased with shortening, pressing outward until round and fairly thin. Spoon ricotta cheese onto one side of the dough about ½-1 inch thick, sprinkle with garlic salt and oregano. Add fillings and top with about 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese. Fold other side of dough over filled side stretching to cover. Pinch edges together and fold/roll upward pinching to seal. Bake at 400º 15-18 minutes or until bottom and top of calzone is slightly golden. Melt butter and stir in minced garlic. Brush top of calzone with butter/garlic mixture and return to oven for 3-4 minutes or until top of calzone is golden brown. Serve with sauce. Sauce: Mix tomato sauce, garlic salt and oregano to taste and heat on stove or in microwave. Other spice variations may be used depending on personal preference.
