Ingredients
- Hot or sweet Italian sausage
- Sliced onions
- Sliced green peppers
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 Tbsp. Crisco shortening

Step 1
Bake hot or sweet sausages(or a combination of both) in 350º oven for approximately 35 minutes or until golden brown and slightly crispy, turning once while baking for even browning. Meanwhile, melt butter and shortening in skillet and add sliced onions and peppers. Cook over med to med-high heat until onions are tender. After sausage has baked and cooled to the touch, slice into 1” pieces and combine in crock pot with onions and peppers. Cook in crock pot on low for 1 hour or longer, stirring occasionally, to tenderize sausage and meld flavors. If cooking for longer than 1 hour, stir occasionally and ensure that onions are not burning. Serve on hot dog rolls or alone if desired.
