Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 mL) whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp (5 mL) baking soda
- 1 tsp (5 mL) cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground ginger
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) dark molasses
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) water
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) canola or olive oil
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and ginger. In a small bowl, whisk together the molasses, water, egg and oil. Add to the dry ingredients and stir just until you have a soft dough.
3. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out about 1/4-inch thick. Cut into gingerbread men or any other shape you like with a cookie cutter, glass rim or knife. Transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet.
4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until firm. Let them cool on the cookie sheet, or turn the oven off and leave them inside for several hours to harden as they cool.
