Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour sifted
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- 2 cups drained sour pitted cherries
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup juice drained from cherries
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- pinch salt

Step 1
Torte: Mix together the dry ingredients and stir into them the egg, butter, and cherries. Fold in the nuts and turn into a greased and wax-paper lined 9 inch layer cake pan. Bake 45 minutes at 350 F.
Cherry Sauce: Cook together in saucepan, stirring constantly over medium heat until thickened and serve over cake.
Serve with whipped cream topped with cherry sauce.
