Five-Spice Grilled Scallops

Ingredients

  • 4 wooden grilling skewers
  • 1 pound sea scallops, side muscles removed
  • Orange zest from 1/2 orange
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 3 teaspoon canola or peanut oil, divided
  • 1 pound baby bok choy, halved lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon Asian sesame oil

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare grill for direct rilling over medium-high heat and oil grill rack.

Place scallops on plate. In small bowl, combine orange zest, five-spice powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pinch pepper. Sprinkle mixture on both sides of scallops. Drizzle scallops with one teaspoon oil. Place bok choy on another plate, brush with remaining 2 teaspoons oil and season lightly with salt.

Thread scallops onto skewers. Place bok choy, cut side down, on hottest part of grill and cook until grill marks appear, about 2 minutes. Turn bok choy, move to cooler part of grill and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
