Ingredients

    pound ground beef

  • 1

    chopped onion

  • Sauce

  • 1

    can (14 ounce size) crushed tomatoes

  • 1

    cup water or stock

  • 1/4

    teaspoon black pepper

  • 1

    teaspoon salt

  • 1

    tablespoon chili powder or to taste

  • 1

    cup drained whole kernel corn

  • 1/2

    cup seeded and chopped green bell pepper

  • Topping

  • 1 1/2

    cup cornmeal

  • 2

    tablespoons flour

  • 2

    tablespoons sugar

  • 1/2

    teaspoon salt

  • 1

    tablespoon baking powder

  • 2

    beaten eggs

  • 2/3

    cup milk

  • 2

    tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

Brown beef and onion in a pan; drain. Add remaining sauce ingredients; simmer for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Mix dry topping ingredients. Stir in remaining ingredients. Place meat mixture in a 2-quart casserole and cover with the topping. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until corn bread is brown.
