Preparation

Step 1

Cut steak into 1/2" cubes. In large dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add steak, cook until well browned, 5 minutes. Remove with slotted spoon to plate. Remove sausage meat from casings, crumble mat into pan. Cook, breaking up clumps with wooden spoon until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Drain off all but 2 TBSP fat, reduce heat to medium. Add onions and garlic, cook stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes or until softened.
Return steak to pan along with tomatoes, tomato sauce, wine, mustard, chili powder, basil, oregano, hot pepper flakes and sugar. Stir together breaking up tomatoes, bring to a boil. Season to taste with salt if needed. Cover, reduce heat, simmer about 1 hour or until beef is tender.
Stir in kidney beans. Simmer, uncovered for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally or until thickened. Serve with dollop of sour ream, if desired.
