Irish Tea Cake

I got this from my Grandmother a long time ago. I have recently seen it in the Fremont Bulletin
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups cake flour
- 3/4 cup butter, at room tempature
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2/3 cups buttermilk
- 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 oz cream cheese, at room tempature
- 1 cup dried currants (or Dates)
- Glaze
- 1/2 cup cofectioners' sugar, sifted
- 2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Preparation
Step 1
1. preheat oven to 325 degrees and place rack in center of oven.
2. Grease a 9-inch loaf pan. Dust with flour and discard excess flour
3. Cut a pieace of parchment paper or waxed paper to fit the bottom of the loaf pan. Set pan aside.
4. Use a mixer to cream butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, until fluffy.
5. Add cream cheese and mix until well combined
6. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together
7. Put currants in a small bowl. Add 1/4 cup of the flour mixer to the currants and stir until well coated.
8. Add remaining flour to the batter, alternating with butter milk. Mix until smooth
9 Use a wooden spoon to stir in currants and all of the flour. stir until well comnbined.
10. Transfer the batter to a prepared pan. Smooth the surface with spatula
11. Bake until brown and a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean, about 1.5 hours
12. Let cake rest in pan for 10 minutes. seperate te cake from the sides of the pan. Remove to a cooling rack.
13. Mix sugar and lemon juice to form glaze, Spread on warm cake, and allow cake to cool completelh before serving.
