Apple-Buttermilk Cobbler, Easy (Cast-Iron Skillet)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, diced
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups sliced apple, such as Gala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Garnish: confectioners' sugar

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in a 10-inch cast-iron

1.Preheat oven to 350°. Place butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet. Place skillet in oven until butter melts.

2.In a medium bowl, whisk together sugars, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in buttermilk and extracts. Pour flour mixture into prepared skillet. In a medium bowl, toss together apple and cinnamon; scatter over flour mixture.

3.Bake until lightly browned, 30 to 35 minutes. Garnish with confectioners' sugar, if desired.
