Korean-Style Barbecued Flank Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 green onions, finely chopped (1/4 cup)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 Tbs. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbs. toasted sesame oil
  • 1 Tbs. fresh grated ginger root
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 beef flank steak (1 1/2 lbs.)
  • 1 Tbs. sesame seed toasted (optional)
  • finely chopped green onions (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Marinade: Combine the 4 green onions, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger root, and garlic. Place steak in a plastic bag and set in a shallow dish. Add marinade; seal bag and turn to coat. Refrigerate at least 6 hours or up to 24 hours, turning occasionally. Drain steak, discard marinade.

Grill steak on grill rack to desired doneness; turning occasionally. Allow 17 to 20 minutes for medium. To serve, carve steak across grain into thin slices. Sprinkle with sesame seed and onions. Serves 6

*We grilled this on the bottom rack with the lid open. Try setting of med-high...last time we used medium, and it took forever. 5/11/99
