Pickles - Bread and Butter Pickles (Martha Evilsizor)
- 1 gallon of pickles or 20 6” pickles
- 8 small onions
- 1-1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 Tbls. mustard seed
- 5 cups sugar
- 2 tsp. celery seed
- 5 cups vinegar
Slice pickles and onions in crock. Cover with ice cubes and let stand 3 hours. Drain.
Combine remaining ingredients and bring to boil. Boil for 1 -2 minutes. Then add cucumbers and onions.
Get good and hot. Pour into prepared jars.
Makes 8 pints.
(No hot water bath…will seal themselves.)
