Ingredients
- For the Filling:
- 6 cups blackberries, raspberries or hulled strawberries
- (or cherries)
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- For the batter:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup plus 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 8 tbsp butter melted
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F.
Make filling: mix the berries, sugar, and flour together in a large bowl and por into a 15" oval baking dish.
Make Batter: Combine flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Add milk and butter, beat until smooth.
Spoon batter over berries. Sprinkle the remaining sugar and nutmeg over batter.
Bake until crust is brown and crisp on the outside and all the way through, approx. 1 hour.
