Date Cake

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix the flour, sugar and butter. set aside one cup of this mixture and blend with brown sugar to make the crumb topping. To the remaining mixture, add the eggs and buttermilk with baking soda dissolved in it, and then mix well. Stir in the chopped dates, walnuts, and vanilla. Pour into a 13"x9" baking dish. Sprinkle on the crumb topping. Bake at 375°F for 30-35 minutes.
