  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2/3 cups shortening
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vinegar

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350℉. Grease and flour a 9"x 13" pan. Measure the flour, sugar, salt and shortening into a large bowl. Cut the shortening with a pastry blender until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup of the crumb mixture and set aside. Add the baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. In a medium bowl beat the eggs with a wire whisk. Measure the milk. Add vinegar then add to eggs, blend together. Add the egg/milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix with the electric mixer until smooth. Pour the batter into the cake pan. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture on top of batter. Bake 25-30 minutes. To make a drizzle topping: Blend 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1 1/2 tsp of water. Drizzle on top of cake.
