Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c raisins
  • 3/4 c buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp baking powder, heaping
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 c margarine or butter
  • 2 c flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400°F.

In large bowl mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar & salt.

Cut in margarine with pastry cutter till crumbly.
Add buttermilk & raisins & mix. Batter should be stiff but not dry.

Drop by large rounded spoonfuls onto cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle top tops of scones with sugar.

Bake 15 mins.

Serve with strawberry jam & devonshire cream.
