Chunky Gingered Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup per serving
  • 4 medium unpeeled cooking apples, coarsely chopped (4 cups)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped crystallized ginger
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, if desired

Preparation

Step 1

1. In 3-quart saucepan, mix all ingredients except cinnamon. Cover and heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer covered 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft.
2. With spoon, crush apples to desired consistency. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve warm or cold.
