Chocolate Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (or 1/4 cup steel-cut oats)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk of choice or water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder, dutch cocoa, or hot cocoa mix
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • sweetener of choice
  • optional: canned coconut milk for the top
  • optional: chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Combine oats, milk, and salt in pan. Heat until most, but not all of the liquid is absorbed. Transfer to refrigerator overnight to have it ready for breakfast. (Or if you want to eat it right away, heat longer or use less liquid.) Add vanilla, sweetener, and cocoa. (Reheat if refrigerated).

Optional: sprinkle with chocolate chips
Almond Joy: use coconut milk as the liquid and add almond extract and shredded coconut.
