Betty Crocker's Brownies (best)

Ingredients

  • Amounts in parens are for 1-1/2 batch
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate (6 oz.)
  • 2/3 c. shortening (1 cup)
  • 2 cups sugar (3 cups)
  • 4 eggs (6 eggs)
  • 1 tsp vanilla (1-1/2 tsp)
  • 1 1/4 c. flour (1-7/8 c.)
  • 1 tsp. baking power (1-1/2 tsp.)
  • 1 tsp. salt (1-1/2 tsp)
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (opt) (1-1/2 c.)

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350. Grease a baking pan, 13x9x2 inches.

Melt chocolate and shortening in a large saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and mix in the sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Spread in pan

Bake 30 minutes or until brownies start to pull away from the sides of the pan. Do not over bake. Cool slightly. Cut into bars.

For a change, spread with ganache and sprinkle with chopped pistachios and sea salt.
