Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound 95% lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 12 ounces pizza sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chopped black olives
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cups shredded part-skim Mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 6 French rolls (preferably whole grain), sliced in half lengthwise

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cook meat and onions in a skillet over medium-high heat until meat is nice and browned and onions are tender; drain off any fat. Stir in pizza sauce, olives, basil and oregano; heat through. Sprinkle half of the cheese evenly over the bottom halves of each of the rolls then top with meat mixture and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Place the top halves of the rolls on top. Wrap each sub in aluminum foil wrap and bake for 40 minutes.

SERVING SUGGESTION: A big salad.
VEGETARIAN: Use TVP crumbles.
KOSHER: Make sure beef is certified kosher and use soy cheese.
GLUTEN FREE: Make sure pizza sauce and olives are gluten free. Use your favorite gluten free rolls.
