Ingredients
- 3 pounds medium shrimp peeled and deveined
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 6 tablespoons flour
- 1 can tomato sauce - (16 oz)
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped bell pepper
- 6 garlic cloves chopped
- 1/2 cup hot water
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 4 bay leaves
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions
- Cayenne pepper to taste
- Salt to taste

Preparation
Step 1
Melt butter in a heavy pot and add vegetable oil. Sauté onions, celery, bell pepper, garlic, and green onions until soft (approximately 5 minutes). Add flour and blend well. Add bay leaf, lemon juice, tomato sauce, hot water and sugar and stir.
Cook over medium heat for approximately 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and cayenne pepper. Add shrimp and cook for 30 minutes longer. Serve hot.
