Cinnamon-Raison French Toast

Ingredients

  • 3 lg. eggs
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 slices day-old cinnamon-raisin bread
  • 2 tbsp. butter, divided
  • Confectioners' sugar
  • Maple syrup (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Whisk eggs, milk, orange peel, vanilla and salt together in bowl. Arrange bread slices in one layer in shallow dish; pour egg mixture over bread. Let stand 5 minutes.
Melt 1 tablespoon butter in large skillet over medium heat. Cook half the bread until browned, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to warm serving platter. Repeat with remaining butter and bread. Sift confectioners' sugar over top of French toast slices and serve with maple syrup.
