Holiday Ham with Ham Sauce

By

This is the only way to eat ham! After you try this, you will never eat the nasty pressed and perfectly round hams again.
The sauce is a "must have". Yummy!

Ingredients

  • Ham Sauce:
  • 1 large bone-in or pit ham (ask the butcher to get a good
  • quality ham)
  • 1 turkey sized cooking bag
  • 1 Tablespoon flour (prevents bag from bursting)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apricot jam
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Preparation

Step 1

Place ham in bag coated with flour. Add water. Tie shut. Bake at 275° F for 6 -7 hours for a 40 lb. ham. (Approx. time based on weight). If cooked long enough, the ham should shred and not require slicing.
Note: Purchase ham from a good butcher and ask his recommendation for cooking time.

Sauce:
In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, apricot jam, and Worcestershire sauce. Warm through, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Serve in gravy boat for individual preference.
