Ingredients

    cups flour

  • 1/4

    cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2

    tsp baking powder

  • 1

    tsp salt

  • 1/2

    tsp baking soda

    Tbsp buttermilk

  • 1

    Tbsp red food coloring

  • 1 1/2

    tsp vanilla

  • 1 1/2

    tsp white vinegar

  • 2

    sticks unsalted butter at room temperature

  • 3/4

    cup sugar

  • 3/4

    cup light brown sugar

  • 2

    eggs

  • 1

    cup powder sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees -In a bowl whisk the flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt and baking soda. -In a small bowl whisk the buttermilk, food color, vanilla and vinegar. -In a large bowl, using a mixer, at medium speed, beat the butter, sugar, and brown sugar occasionally scraping down the bowl until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. -Add the eggs, one at a time, beating to blend between additions. -Reduce speed to low and add the flour mixture until just blended. Beat in the buttermilk mixture until just blended. -cover and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours -Roll half the dough.(Keep the rest chilled) by the tablespoon into balls, roll in powdered sugar. Place 2 inches apart on parchment lined cookie sheets -Bake 12-15 minutes. Let cool on sheet 1 minute before removing to racks.
