Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 c sugar
  • 1 c butter flavored Crisco
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c light corn syrup or regular pancake syrup
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 3 c + 4 T flour, divided
  • 3/4 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1/2 t salt

Step 1

Heat oven to 375. Combine sugar and Crisco in large bowl. Beat at med speed until well blended. Add eggs, syrup and vanilla. Beat until well blended and fluffy.
Combine 3 c flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed. Mix until well blended. Divide dough into 4 quarters. If dough is too sticky, roll in saran wrap and place in fridge for about an hour.
Spread 1 T flour on large sheet of waxed paper. Place one fourth of the dough and flatten it with hands. Place another piece of waxed paper over the top and roll it out 1/4' thickness. Cut out with cutter. Transfer to cookie sheet 2" apart. Sprinkle with sugar or leave plain for frosting.
Bake one sheet at a time at 375 for 5-9 mons. Do not overbake. Cool 2 mins then transfer to rack.
