Lamb Burgers, Turkish

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground lamb
  • 1 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 4 pita bread rounds, about 6", Top 14/ cut off
  • 1 cup plum tomatoes, seeded and diced

Preparation

Step 1

Combine lamb, 1/2 cup onions, 1 teaspoon salt, pumpkin pie spice and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper in a medium bowl. add ground lamb an mix gently.

Using moistened hands, form lamb mixture into 4 equal patties, about 1/2-inch thick.

Combine yogurt, cumin, remaining 1/2 cup onions, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Let stand for 15 minutes.

Prepare brill at medium high heat. Grill burgers to desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium.

Carefully open up the pita breads to make pockets. Insert one burger in each pita. Spoon in yogurt mixture and tomatoes, dividing equally and serve.
