Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 8 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of swiss or sharp cheddar
  • 2 medium sweet onions,sliced
  • butter
  • salt and pepper

Step 1

Season the meat with salt and pepper to taste and form into 4 burgers the size of the rye bread. In the meantime, slice the onions in rings and saute in a little olive oil until desired doneness. Remove from pan and add a little oil and fry burgers until browned and cooked to desired doneness. Remove from pan. Spread butter on the outside of ryebread. Arrange in skillet, ryebread, cheese, onions and burgers. Cook until bread is browned and cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. Remove from pan and cut crosswise.
