Date Nute Bread

To serve, spread with cream cheese on top of each slice.
This bread can be wrapped in aluminum foil and stored in the freezer for many weeks.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 5 Tbsp shortening
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour, sifted

Step 1
Mix first 4 ingredients with fork. Add shortening and water. Let stand for 20 minutes. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs with fork and add to mixture. Then add vanilla, sugar, flour. Stir to blend well all together. Pour into greased loaf pan (9x5x2). Bake for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until done.
Makes 1 loaf.
