Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup water (boiling)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- FROSTING:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup milk
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
- Pecans for topping (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Cake:
Preheat oven to 350
In a large bowl stir together melted butter, boiling water and cocoa until smooth. Mix in sugar, eggs, and sour cream until well blended.
Add in baking soda and flour and carefully stir until smooth.
Pour batter into a greased jelly roll pan (13x18").
Bake 18-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
Frosting:
Make the frosting while the cake bakes.
In a medium sauce pan melt the butter with the milk and cocoa powder.
Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
Once it boils turn off the heat and stir in the powdered sugar until well incorporated.
Pour evenly over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
