- 2 cups white basmati rice
- 1 cinnamon stick - (3" long)
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 2/3 cups water
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Step 1
In a bowl, wash the rice in several changes of cold water until the water runs clear. In a large heavy saucepan, combine the rice with the cinnamon stick, cloves, water, salt, and oil. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook the rice, covered, over low heat until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 15 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
This recipe yields 4 to 6 servings.
