Homemade Pretzels

By

I made the dough in my bread maker but be sure yours is large enough to handle 5-6 cups of flour.........wouldn't want you to burn out that brand new bread machine! The recipe is from the "Home & Family" show.

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450 degrees and grease cookie sheets. Let yeast dissolve in water, add sugar, wait til dissolved. Add flour and salt slowly until combined (30 sec) Beat on medium speed until sides pull away from bowl. If dough is sticky, add more flour.
Pour two teaspoons canola (vegetable) oil into bowl and add dough, swirl to coat with oil. Let rise in warm spot to double its size. Punch dough down and divide into 16 pieces. Roll pieces into 18" "ropes". Twist into pretzel shapes. Poach briefly in hot water and place on GREASED cookie sheet. Brush pretzels with beaten egg and bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes. To top, spray with water or cooking spray and roll into salt or cinnamon
sugar.

Notes: I just threw the hot water, sugar, yeast, five cups of flour and salt into my Zojorushi and set it for dough cycle.........came out perfect. Poaching is a little tricky. Don't have the water too hot! Mine didn't look "perfect" but ohhhhh .....the taste is great!
