Ingredients
- 1 lb. dried split peas, rinsed and drained
- 11/2 lb Yukon potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 5 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 C onion, chopped
- 1 C celery, chopped
- 1 C carrot, peeled and chopped
- 1 large bay leaf
- 1 t pepper
- 3/4 t kosher salt
- 2 lbs smoked ham hock
- 6 C water
- Sour cream for topping
Preparation
Step 1
1. Layer peas and next nine ingredients in order listed in 6 qt. slow cooker. Cover and cook in low 8 hours.
2. Remove ham hocks. Clean meat from bones, cut in bite size pieces.
3. Coarse.y mash soup to desired consistency. May add hot water to thin if desired. Stir in chopped ham.
4. Serve with dollops of sour cream on top.
