Ingredients

  • 12 oz root beer
  • 18 oz sweet barbecue sauce, divided
  • 1 oz dry onion soup mix
  • 6-8 lb pork shoulder roast
  • Salt and pepper
  • Hamburger buns (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Coat inside of crock-pot with nonstick cooking spray. Combine root beer and ½ bottle of barbecue sauce in medium bowl. Rub soup mix on pork roast. Place barbecue mixture and roast in pot. Cover; cook low 8-10 hours.

Remove pork to cutting board; shred with two forks. Reserve 1 cup barbecue mixture in crock pot; discard remaining mixture. Turn cooker to high. Stir shredded pork, remaining barbecue sauce, salt and pepper in cooker. Cover; cook on High 20 minutes or until heated through. Serve on buns, if desired.
