oven-barbecued beef

Ingredients

  • 5-6 LB beef brisket
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder or juice
  • 1/2 tsp grd. coriander
  • 1 (3oz) bottle liquid smoke
  • 1/2 C brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 C prepared BBQ sauce
  • 1 1/2 C catsup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 C water

Preparation

Step 1


rub both sides of beef w/ seasonings
place in flat glass dish
pour 1/2 bottle of liquid smoke on one side of meat
turn & pour remainder over 2nd side

cover tightly w/ foil & refrig for at least 24 hrs

place dish containing meat in cold oven
bake uncovered @275 degrees for 5-6 hrs
add 1/2 C water as needed to keep dish moist

cool meat & slice thinly
can be frozen or refrigerated at this point

combine rest of ingredients & cook for 15-20 min. Sauce will be dark in color
spoon sauce over meat & reheat
do not leave in oven too long or it will dry out
may be served hot or cold
