Mom's Homemade Biscuits
By nelly
I have been making these buscuits for years. The family really enjoys them when I make them to go with sausage gravy.
I have to make this batch times 6 to satisfy my family of 7 boys and 2 girls.
I some times use open cookie cutters to cut these biscuits with for extra fun......like a heart shaped one near Valentine's Day. My family enjoys these especially my oldest daughter who gave me a biscuit cutter for Christmas since she thought I needed an official biscuit cutter to use instead of the top of a glass or cup as I have been using for years.
When I make these biscuits with sausage gravy, my husband says I can have up to "half his kingdom" as a way to thank me.

Preparation
Step 1
Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar (if using), cream of tartar, and salt.
Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add milk all at once. Stir just till dough clings together.
Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter or other open cookie cutter, heart shaped for example. Transfer to ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 450 degrees for 8-12 minutes or until golden brown.
