Ingredients
- for the bars:
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 sticks butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- for the cinnamon filling -
- 3 Tbsp cinnamon mixed with 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup of apple butter
- for the glaze:
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
heat oven to 350 degrees
spray a 9 x 9 baking pan with cooking spray, line with foil, and then spray the foil with cooking spray
whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt - set aside
cream together the butter and sugars
add the eggs, one at a time, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl, and then add the vanilla
slowly mix in the flour, and blend only until everything is combined
spread half of the batter into the prepared pan
spread on the apple butter, and sprinkle on half of the cinnamon and sugar filling
top with the remaining batter, and finish with the remaining cinnamon and sugar
bake 35 - 40 minutes
while the bars bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze
cool bars 5 minutes, and then top with glaze
allow to set and cool completely before cutting
Notes:
the bars are extremely gooey, if you prefer a more "done" center, allow the bars to bake 40 - 45 minutes
