Ingredients
- 1 box red velvet cake mix, and ingredients on box
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
Preparation
Step 1
1. Prepare red velvet cake mix according to back of box
2. Cook red velvet cake as directed
3. After the cake cools, crumble it into pieces
4. In a double broiler, mix half and half with chocolate chips until warm. Once it as cooled, it can be used in the trifle
5. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, mascarpone cheese, and sugar on high until light and fluffy
6. Reduce speed to medium and slowly pour in whipping cream
7. Continue whipping until mixture resembles soft whipped cream (this took about 10 minutes)
8. Arrange the trifle as follows:
a. Layer of red velvet cake
b. Layer of chocolate ganache
c. Layer of mascarpone frosting
