Open Face Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 (9") unbaked pie crust
  • 5 medium apples
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 Tb. water
  • 1 1/2 Tb. butter
  • 1 c. grated cheddar

Preparation

Step 1

1. Thaw pie crust shell if frozen. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Peel, core and cut apples into thin slices.
3. Combine sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl. Add the apples and stir until they are well coated with the mixture.
4. Place apples in layers in the pie shell. Sprinkle with water and dot with butter.
5. Bake 20 minutes. Remove pie from oven.
6. Sprinkle cheese over pie and place pie under broiler to melt cheese; serve hot.

Variation: Leave off the cheese and spread one cup sour cream on the pie before baking or just bake the pie with the apples and spices and serve with ice cream.
