MY NOTES: Made 11/14/04 - Very good!

Made again 12/08/07. Still tasted good but was much thinner than I remembered. Thickened with a little flour and water. Next time I might try reducing the water to 8 cups.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb dried split peas
  • 10 cups water
  • 1 lb smoked sausage of your choice, sliced
  • 5 cubes chicken bouillon
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped carrot
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion, chopped

Preparation

Step 1

In a 5 quart slow cooker; combine all of the ingredients.

Cover and cook on High 4-5 hours. Remove bay leaves before serving.

If you do not have a slow cooker, combine all ingredients in a large pot. Simmer over low heat for 2-3 hours, stirring often.
