Ingredients
- 18 1/2 oz. chocolate cake mix
- 3.9 oz. pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 1/2 c. milk, divided
- 1/3 c. oil
- 3.4 oz. pkg. instant vanilla pudding
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. margarine, softened
- 1 c. powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- opt. additional powdered sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Combine cake mix, chocolate pudding mix, 1 1/2 c. milk and oil. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed for 4 minutes. Spread in 2 greased and floured 9" round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cool layers on a wire rack. For filling, prepare vanilla pudding mix with remaining milk; chill until very cold. Blend shortening and margarine; add chilled pudding, powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed for 10 minutes. Place one layer on a plate; spread with filling. Add second layer on top; sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
