Old Fashioned Beef Stew

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Beef chuck, cut into 1½ inch cubes
  • 2 Tbs Oil
  • 4 cups Boiling Water
  • 1 Tbs Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ea Garlic clove
  • 1 ea Medium onion, sliced
  • 2 ea Bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Pepper
  • ½ tsp Paprika
  • ¼ tsp Allspice or Cloves
  • 6 ea Large carrots, quartered or equivalent small carrots
  • 8 ea Small Potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 18 ea Small white onions

Preparation

Step 1

Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot oil, turning often.

Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves and seasoning. Cover and simmer (do not boil) for 2 hours. Stri occasionally to keep meat from sticking.

Remove bay leaves and garlic.

Add carrots, potatoes and onions. Cover and cook for 30 minutes more or until vegetables are done.

Remove meat and vegetables and thicken liquid using flour and water mixture. Readd meat and vegetables.
