Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps. olive oil
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely diced (about 2/3 cup)
  • 1-28oz. can peeled or crushed tomatoes (Pastene brand or San Marzano is best)
  • 1 tblsp. dried oregano
  • 2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp. each salt and pepper
  • 1-2 tblsps. sugar
  • fresh basil, garnish for serving

Preparation

Step 1

Add olive oil to a medium saucepan set over medium heat. Saute' onion and garlic until softened (approximately 5 minutes). Add tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Cook for approximately 45 minutes. Add the sugar cook for additional 15 minutes.
