Ingredients
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1 cup milk, heated
- 4 cups flour, sifted
Preparation
Step 1
Sprinkle yeast and sugar into 1/4 cup warm water. Let proof for 5 minutes.
Sift 4 cups flour into large mixing bowl. Gradually pour in the yeast mixture and milk, stirring until firm dough is formed.
Place dough on a lightly floured board and knead about 5 minutes. Place dough in large buttered bowl, and cover with a lightly dampened towel.
Let rise until doubled in bulk, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Punch down and let rise for another 30 minutes until doubled again in volume. Turn dough onto floured board and knead as above for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. It is now ready to be made into flower rolls or filled for steamed buns.
