Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cups sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar

Step 1

Sift flour and salt into medium bowl, cut butter into flour. Dissolve yeast into water. Stir into flour mixture. Add in sour cream, egg, egg yolks and vanilla; mix well by hand. Scrape dough down from sides of bowl into center. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Sprinkle some of sugar on large bread board or cutting board. Place 1/2 of dough on board, keeping the rest chilled. Roll out into 16 x 8 inch oblong. Fold 2 ends to center, allowing 1 end to overlap the other. Repeat 3 times, working quickly to keep mixture cool. Roll out dough again to 1/4 inch think. Cut into 1 inch strips and 4 inches long. Twist ends of each strip in opposite directions. Place on ungreased baking sheet, pressing down ends. Bake immediately in preheated 375 oven for about 25 minutes. Remove immediately from baking sheet. Cool on wire racks.
