Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 T. lemon juice
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 3/4 t. cloves
  • 1/2 t. ginger
  • 2 t. baking soda
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/3 c. boiling water
  • Raisins if desired

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, molasses and lemon juice. Add dry ingredients and mix well. The boiling water is to soak the raisins in before they are added to the dough. Chill dough for 30 minutes. Roll in balls and then roll in sugar.

Bake at 350' until cookie springs back when pressed.

The boiling water is to put the raisins in to "plump" them!
