BBQ'd Country-Style Pork Ribs

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, pealed
  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 3 cups apple cider or juice
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 lb. country-style pork ribs

Preparation

Step 1

Lightly grease the crockery insert of a 5-6 qt. slow cooker.

Heat 1 Tbsp. butter and 1 Tbsp. oil in a frying pan on med-high heat and cook onions until soft, or if desired, caramelized. Put cooked onions, raw garlic cloves, apple slices, cider, BBQ sauce, salt and pepper in the slow cooker and stir.

Wash ribs, trim excess fat and pat dry. Brown the ribs on all sides in 1 Tbsp butter and 1 Tbsp. oil over med-high heat.

Nestle the ribs into the ingredietns in the slow cooker. Cook on low 8-9 hours.

Remove ribs ,separate the fat from the juices and pour into a saucepan. Simmer until they are reduced to a desirable thickness. Add ribs and turn them in the sauce to coat and heat thoroughly before serving.
