Chocolate Chip Cake Bars
By Addie
"Whenever I need a quick dessert for a bake sale or get-together, I rely on this recipe," informs Tammy Haugen of Mayville, Wisconsin. "I keep cake mixes on hand, so these chocolate chip-studded treats are a snap to stir up."
Ingredients
- 1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips, divided
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 tablespoon shortening
Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in 1-1/2 cups of chocolate chips and nuts.
Spread in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
Melt shortening with the remaining chocolate chips; drizzle over the top. Cut into bars. Yield: about 3-1/2 dozen.

Absolutely delicious! And easy to make. They come out nice and moist. Sometimes I would warm them up and put some vanilla ice cream on it. Yum!
I bought a Taste of Home's 200l Quick Cooking book at a garage sale and found this great recipe in it, which everyone loves.
These are moist and delicious. I did not have a yellow cake mix on had so I used chocolate and it turned out great!
I fed these to my group of 8-11 year old girls from church and these bars were gone in NO TIME!! Will definitely be making these again:) Instead of melting the shortening and choc. chips I just sprinkled some chips on top of the cake as soon as it was out of the oven and then stuck it back in for a couple minutes and then smeared them over the cake
I made this recipie for my neighborhood labor day party & every one loved them!!! They said that I would now have to bring them to every labor day party. I thought that they were a little bit under cooked but other than that they were fabulous :)
THESE ARE AWESOME!! I sent them to my brother in college and he loved them. He said they were better then chocolate chip cookies! They don't get hard and they freeze well.
Really easy! I have made these bars numerous times for my kids and faculty treats. These bars are so moist and chewy just like a great chocolate chip cookie but I only have to clean one pan.
