Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 (1 pound) box dates, chopped
- 1 pound orange slice candy, chopped
- 1 cup coconut
- 2 cups chopped nuts
- Dash of salt

Preparation
Step 1
Cream butter, sugar, and eggs. Dissolve soda in milk. Add flour and milk alternately to creamed mixture.

Take fruit, nuts, and candy - shake in flour until well coated (one cup - in addition to that called for above). Drop in coconut and shake. Mix with batter. Bake 2 1/2 hours at 250deg in a greased and floured tube pan.
TOPPING:
Mix 1 cup orange juice and 2 cups powdered sugar. Pour over cake and let stand overnight.
